Natural Aphrodisiacs – Ancient Seduction Secrets

In a white paper criticizing over-the-counter products sold as aphrodisiacs, an FDA writer cited the following observation:

“The mind is the most powerful aphrodisiac there is,” says John Renner, founder of the Consumer Health Information Research Institute (CHIRI). “It is very difficult to evaluate something that someone is taking because if you tell them it is an aphrodisiac, the hope of a certain answer could lead to an additional sexual reaction.”

The important question that must follow this astute observation is: “So what?” Unfortunately, instead of asking or answering this obvious question, the FDA spokesperson simply went on to lay out the difficulty of proving that something is an aphrodisiac, then hinted that if it can’t be proven, then it must not be true.

Let’s take a different approach to this question. Let’s start with the assumption that people are interested in aphrodisiacs precisely because they want to achieve “an additional sexual reaction”, and that if something does not hurt, it is worth investigating. Thousands of years of folk tradition and the wisdom of people who are no one’s fools suggest that this approach is as good a place as any to start.

The goals of taking safe, natural products that work as aphrodisiacs are to have more or better sex. These goals can be achieved in two ways: improving the function, state of arousal or resistance of the sexual organs themselves, and modifying a person’s mood, making them more receptive to having sex. Traditionally, the opinion is often that men need the first (for obvious mechanical reasons, such as erectile dysfunction remedies or impotence treatment) and women need the second, but that’s an oversimplification. However, a detailed discussion of these different effects of aphrodisiacs is the subject of a different article. For now, let’s consider some natural products that you can start using right away, with great results!

Yohimbe Bark – Let’s start with a warning in this case: If you have high blood pressure, be very careful and start with low doses. Also, some scientific data suggests that yohimbe is more effective in low doses than in high doses, so it makes sense to start small and see how you go. Yohimbe is sold in many health food stores, herbalists, and online in capsule form. It comes from a tree that grows in Africa and has been used in West Africa as a sexual enhancer for many years. The product can improve erections in men and improve sexual response in women.

Chocolate – The only required caveat in this case is that it could increase unwanted weight gain, but then if it performs its desired function as an aphrodisiac, the resulting additional exercise should fix that problem. Chocolate, in addition to its sensual texture that can inspire the imagination to erotic creativity, contains a stimulant called phenylethylamine. Researchers report that this compound acts like an endorphin and produces a feeling of well-being. Of course, the right background music and a little candlelight are always a good accompaniment to these lovers’ indulgence.

Ginkgo – This herbal product is frequently used to delay age-related memory loss, but some have found it helpful in treating erectile dysfunction. It is sold in capsules and in tea form at most health food and natural supplement stores.

These are just three of the natural aphrodisiacs that you can use to enhance your romantic relationships. Future articles will discuss more natural herbal aphrodisiacs and how they work to enhance sexual arousal for you and your partner, creating a more satisfying experience for both of you.
