That bill is likely to go before the Supreme Court in 2020, but that date is far from certain. In the meantime, sports betting is still illegal in all 50 states. Here are the most likely states to legalize this type of gambling.
Alaska and Hawaii do not have legalized sports betting, but both states are not far from New Jersey and New York, which both have approved legal sports wagering legislation. While these two states are close to a legal sports betting market, the relationship between New York and New Jersey means that their sports wagering laws will not be affected by their neighboring state. Other states that may not legalize the activity include South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, and Pennsylvania.
North Dakota, Oregon, and New York are among the states that have not legalized sports betting, but this is changing. In New York, sports betting has been approved through mobile legislation, and lawmakers in Ohio passed a similar bill this week. Wyoming and Maryland have passed their own versions of the bill, but neither has passed it yet. Kentucky and California have both opted to wait until the end of the 2019 legislative session to decide whether to allow sports wagering. However, one state is sure to follow suit – it may even pass a ballot measure next year.

There are no restrictions on mobile betting in the state, but the regulation process will be complicated by the rules of Native American casinos.
There are other states that have legalized sports betting. In fact, there is currently a long list of states that have not legalized it. The state of Montana, for example, is a major contender in the national sports betting space. Its legislature is unlikely to pass legislation until 2020, but a number of other issues could prevent it from happening. The state of Minnesota is not the only state that is looking at legalizing sports betting.
In New Jersey, voters approved the casino bill in May 2018. In addition, many other states are moving forward with the legalization of sports betting. In Massachusetts, the state legislature is currently considering a bill, while in New York, lawmakers are mulling the matter. In Wyoming, 55 parishes voted to legalize sports gambling. In Louisiana, the Legislature hasn’t voted yet on the details of the bill.
