The general guide to choosing a phone

Today, there are hundreds of types of phones to choose from, and if you don’t know the difference between Android and iPhone, it becomes even more difficult to choose. There are some important differences between them that will generally push people to one camp or the other, or at least, to make a more informed decision about their mobile phone.

Hardware
Apple, as the only company that makes iPhones, has excellent hardware and therefore excellent quality in all of its phones. Their offers are limited and therefore easier to choose: iPhone 5, 6, 7, etc. Android, on the other hand, has a wide range of options as it allows many phone manufacturers to use its software, such as Motorola, LG, Samsung, and HTC. However, because there are so many options, that increases the variability in the quality of Androids, from very basic and low quality phones to high quality premium phones.

Integration with other devices
Now this depends on the other devices you have as well. If you have an Apple laptop and an iPad, an iPhone would be the obvious choice because they integrate well together, sharing apps, iMessage, photos, and more with each other. With Android, you don’t get as unified an experience as there are so many manufacturers, however, Google services will also transfer across your Android devices.

intelligence assistant
Siri, the iPhone assistant, is well known for its ability to perform simple tasks, such as setting reminders or answering questions. However, the assistant for Android, GoogleNow, has the advantage over Siri with its complete access to Google’s knowledge about you and the world to help you completely.

user experience
The iPhone is easy to use, has great quality, and therefore works well and has the apps you want. Your use of the iPhone is going to be very similar to your friend’s use of the iPhone. The different models will also be pretty similar, just with minor updates and tweaks between them. Androids, on the other hand, with their sheer variety, will offer a greater ability to customize exactly what you want, be it apps, screen display, or the level of software control.

Storage
iPhones don’t offer expandable storage, so you’re stuck with how many GB you buy the phone with. You can buy cloud storage on a month-to-month basis, but it won’t work for apps. Many Androids offer expandable memory, including all Motorola, many Samsung series, and some LG. So if storage is a priority for you, be sure to check out your options before you buy.

size and design
For newer iPhones, they come in 4.7 inches for the 6, 6s, and 7, or 5.5 inches for the 6 plus, 6s plus, and 7 plus. And it will be the same for the iPhone 7s, 7s plus. The iPhone has a sleek and recognizable design, but again, it doesn’t come with as many options. If it’s size you’re after, Android offers more options. The Note series is Samsung’s offering for big phones, Motorola offers some 5.7-inch phones, while the Sony XPeria XA Ultra is a 6.0-inch phablet, among many other offerings. And as I mentioned earlier, Android has more design and customization options available.

So keep these considerations in mind when deciding which phone to buy next. You don’t need to stick with the same brand, however many people prefer Android or iPhone and don’t feel comfortable switching.
