My penis smells bad: why?

Let’s be honest; a smelly nether region is a recipe for a bad date and a ruined evening. Aside from penile odor being unpleasant, it can also be a symptom of something more serious, such as an infection. These are some of the possible reasons why a man’s penis smells bad.

If I were to do a survey, penis odor would be at the top of the list of potential date/night disasters. Since all genitalia have an odor, extreme penile odors can be a sign of something potentially serious, or it can be due to poor hygiene. Most of the time, making sure the penis is clean will keep odor at bay. However, some conditions will give rise to a foul odor. Below are some common causes of a smelly penis. Remember, seek medical treatment if you have bloody discharge or pain.

1) smegma It is a buildup of dead skin cells, natural oils, sweat, and moisture that occurs on both the male and female genitalia, although it is more common in uncircumcised men. Smegma collects under the foreskin in men and has several distinctive features: thick, smelly, cottage cheese-like discharge or pearl-shaped lumps under the foreskin. Smegma displays similar characteristics to the other infections below, so be sure to keep an eye out for any other symptoms you’re experiencing.

2) Non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU) It is an infection of the urethra caused by pathogens other than gonorrhea. NGU is often caused by chlamydia and is sexually transmitted. In men, symptoms appear as foul-smelling discharge from the penis, burning with urination, itching, or a stain on the underwear. Seek medical treatment if you feel you have been infected with UNG, as you will need antibiotics to treat the infection.

3) Dry skin it can actually cause a smelly penis, as dehydrated skin will eventually crack and leave these areas prone to bacteria and subsequent infection. As the skin of the penis is very delicate and fragile, it is advisable to keep the skin moisturized so that it remains intact. The drier the skin, the more likely it is to have a penis odor.

4) Tight clothing is a culprit of penile odor. The genital area is a perfect breeding area for bacteria to grow and become infected as it is dark, moist, warm and all moisture is trapped. Keep the area dry and clean to avoid an unpleasant odor under your clothes. You and your partner will thank us.

5) thrush it is very common and has some common symptoms of other infections as well, which is why it is so important to be aware of any changes in your body. Thrush usually occurs around the head of the penis and may be irritated, red and sore, painful, and may have a burning sensation when urinating or a white discharge that resembles cottage cheese. Seek medical treatment to help.

At the end of the day, penis odor is sometimes unavoidable. How to get rid of a smelly penis, you ask? Keep clean.
