Depending on the state you’re in, online gaming isn’t illegal. New Jersey, for example, has legalized online betting since February of this year. There are now over 70 licensed sportsbooks in the Garden State, and mobile sports betting is expected to be legal by April 2020. By the end of the year, two of them will be available as well. But the question remains: Which states are the most welcoming to online gambling?

Pennsylvania is the first state to allow online gambling, and it has legalized sportsbooks, poker, and casinos. With such a large market, online operators are eager to serve the state’s residents. Other recent legalizing states include West Virginia and Connecticut. GeoComply recently tracked online gambling activity in the first week following the legalization. Among those cities that saw the most activity were Stamford and Greenwich.

Although gambling is legal on a federal level, each state has the right to regulate it. In New Jersey, for example, online casino generate more than $80 million every month. The state’s tax revenue has been massive, so much so that residents have even put forward initiatives to change their laws on iGaming. If New York can learn from this success, then they’ll be well on their way to legalizing iGaming in the state.
