How to clean ostrich leather bags

Ostrich is a soft and exquisite leather distinguished by its feather pattern. It is also one of the strongest, yet most flexible exotic leathers. Filled with natural oils, ostrich leather bags have a high resistance to drying, cracking and stiffness. However, this is not a license to neglect them. There are some specific guidelines that must be followed in the care and cleaning of ostrich leather. When properly cared for, ostrich leather bags can last a lifetime.

  • Ostrich leather bags do not require a lot of maintenance to keep them in good shape. But there are some things that you should avoid at all costs.
  • Do not use soaps or solvents on leather. Ostrich leather does not have a heavy finish like other exotic leathers such as alligator or crocodile, so there is not much protection.
  • This is good. The natural oils in leather keep it soft and well-conditioned. The oils in your hands will also help condition the leather, increasing its natural shine. Ostrich leather handbags are known to improve in appearance over time.
  • Its resistance to drying and cracking protects it from the elements, but certain steps must be taken to avoid prolonged exposure to moisture and especially direct sunlight.
  • Because ostrich leather finishes are generally transparent, sunlight can cause the leather to fade over time.
  • Ideally, you want to clean your bag at least every two months.
  • To remove moisture, simply wipe it with a clean, dry cloth.
  • To remove stains, all you need to do is wipe it with a clean, damp (not wet) cotton cloth. Remove stains immediately so they don’t have time to set.
  • Let the bag dry naturally, indoors. Do not dry it in direct sunlight or with a hair dryer. If it got soaked in the rain, you can use a small fan. Be sure to wedge it open and flip it regularly so it dries evenly.
  • Do not use cleaners or conditioners for conventional leathers or other exotic leathers. We’ve heard of ostrich-specific products, but haven’t tried any yet, so we can’t recommend them. We will test them in the future on our website.
  • For grease stains, sprinkle a light coating of talcum powder on the dirty area and let it sit for an hour. Brush with a clean, dry cloth. Do not use brushes or paper as they can scratch the surface.
  • Ostrich leather should be stored in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • It should also be covered in its box or dust bag to prevent dust from settling on its surface.
  • Do not bend or stress the bag in any way. Let it rest naturally, with plenty of space and nothing on top, pressing it under its weight.
  • Tuck the strap in, especially if it has a chain or hardware. This will prevent scratching the leather.
  • Simply taking your ostrich leather bags out of the elements, not allowing stains to settle, and periodically dusting them will keep them in great shape.

Every elegant woman should add an ostrich leather handbag to her collection. The soft, supple leather feels beautiful to the touch and the delicate pattern of the feather follicles is incredibly elegant. It gives an air of sophistication and quality and, although it is more expensive than most other exotic leathers, it is an investment that really lasts for years. Ostrich leather handbags are known to have become family heirlooms and are passed down from generation to generation. Understanding and regularly caring for your bag can bring you a lifetime of happy memories and add to your elegant image.
