Security cameras: are you safe from prying eyes?

It’s not a photo shoot or the paparazzi focusing their cameras on you. Those are the security cameras, some of which you see and some of which you don’t, and they’ve got you clean, warts and all. You get your footage just fine and most of it is worse than the Charles Mansion mug shots. No problem, but in the women’s bathroom or the men’s bathroom, are you safe from prying eyes?

Get ready for the cameras

Security cameras should do exactly that: provide security. But what if these are abused and used for stealing, spying on ladies’ restrooms, and recording your intimate and personal activities in the privacy of your hotel room? Man and woman – no one is safe from the abusive and malicious use of surveillance cameras in public places.

You know that every time you walk into a bank or a restaurant there are hidden security cameras. Just ignore the thought and relax. But when you use the men’s or ladies’ room, be on your guard. Although the operators of the surveillance systems are supposed to be challengeable, there will be some bad guys on the lot.

Also note that big-name hotels have been sued for violating their customers’ privacy. If this is the case, you will never know who to trust. The least you can do is take extra precautions when you are in a public area or even in trusted hotels and shopping malls.

But sometimes the culprits are not the establishments. These wireless cameras can be placed by individuals who can receive the images in the comfort of their homes as long as they are within transmission range. Maybe you should get those bug sweepers and check the bathroom or hotel rooms. As you have already learned, it takes a spy to catch a spy.

Surveillance abuse cases

There are several types of security cameras: surveillance cameras, night vision cameras, wireless cameras, and infrared cameras. Knowing the different types can alert you to the possibilities of snooping at any time of day and anywhere. The only place you are safe from the prying eye is your home. If you think that only women are looked at, you are wrong. Men are also unsuspecting victims of perverts.

* Women commuting in New York City have been eyed on what is now the famous “skirt cam.” A camera was installed under a subway grating at Lexington Avenue and 88th Street. Fearing a bomb, the police discovered instead a multimedia camera.

* Newark, New York – A police officer resigned after he was convicted of planting a camera in a shopping mall’s women’s changing room.

* Ithaca, New York – A homeowner fell into hot water when it was discovered he had planted a pinhead in the bathroom of an apartment shared by four college students.

* A casino was heavily fined when two employees focused security cameras on low-cut necklines, not chips and stacks.

Criminals also use surveillance cameras. If you go to the ATM, next time take a look at the devices that look so legal. These are actually cameras meant to record your PIN. The best way to get your money is at the counter.

Small children are not spared either. Before entrusting your little ones to daycare, check the credentials of childcare providers and teachers. As a parent, don’t be intimidated by asking questions and doing background checks. Talk to the teachers and check out the facilities. You may find a spy camera in the bathrooms. This is not allowed as children and nursery workers also have a right to their privacy.
