How To Make Extra Money Online – PPC Keyword Research

One of the most important aspects of PPC is having the right keywords in your campaign. You are trying to make money online and for this you have to attract customers to an affiliate offer. Not having the right keywords could result in no or very little traffic. If this happens you will not make any money online, in fact you could lose money online. You need a regular source of traffic for your campaign, if you get just a trickle your keywords are wrong but you will incur a cost for the keywords you have. A good way to do keyword research is to use the Google Keyword Tool found within Google AdWords. This tool is free to use, though if you’re using PPC, chances are you already have an AdWords account.

To access the AdWords keyword tool, use the Google search engine and type ‘keyword tool’. The first site you will be presented with will be the keyword tool. If you click on that entry, you will be taken to the Google Keyword Tool. The screen is quite easy to follow. You need to think of a keyword for your campaign niche and enter that keyword into the keyword tool. You also need to enter the Capcha code.

If your niche is, for example, weight loss, you can type ‘lose weight fast’ after you’ve entered the capcha code, the AdWords keyword tool will display a large number of related keywords and their recent monthly volumes. You should scan for these keywords and I suggest you store some of the relevant keywords in a file to enter later in your campaign.

A word of caution, the keyword ‘lose weight’ will almost certainly show up, but I’m guessing your click volume will be about 5 million clicks per month. Not only will this keyword be difficult for you to get a page 1 ranking, but your cost per click will be very high. The goal is to make money online, so stay away from high volume keywords.

Pick some of the long tail keywords like ‘help me lose weight’. I’m guessing the volume for that keyword will be much lower and possibly one that you can afford and who knows, one where you might get a one page rank. When you have about 20 keywords that you think you could easily afford to have in your campaign, you’ve completed your keyword research and have the keywords for your campaign.
