Benefits of constructive play

Have you ever thought about doing something different with your child’s play structure? Do you think they should play with different tools than the conventional school playground and outdoor playground?

When my daughter was less than five years old, I tried to keep her away from outdoor tools that older children play with. I am not a strict mom but I am very afraid of injuries. On the other hand, he wanted her to have some physical and mental activities that could help her grow. By searching, I came to know about construction toys. Believe it or not, she did wonders for my daughter’s growth! The positive aspects that I noticed in it are the following.

1. Better at problem solving

I saw her trying out different ideas while building blocks. Sometimes he used to try dozens of ideas to build one thing. What I liked most about this game was that she never gave up. She kept thinking and trying one idea after another; destroying one structure and testing another. This made her consistent and a better problem solver. Now, I see that she finds a way out of every difficulty that comes her way, be it academic or social.

2. Improve fine motor skills

Fine motor skills have to do with the movement of hands and fingers. Simple activities of daily routine, such as brushing teeth, picking up an object, combing hair, etc. Helps in strengthening fine motor skills. We ignore the importance of these simple activities, but they play an important role in our lives.

To improve your child’s motor skills, try to indulge him in constructive games. It’s all about simple yet effective hand movements that ultimately lead to better performance.

3. Better Academic Performance

It may sound crazy to you, but constructive play helps improve academic learning skills. How? You must wonder! We don’t realize that the activities involved in constructive play are actually some learning skills. For example, you need calculations, measurements and simple geometry. What’s more, it involves science such as brainstorming, experimentation, deception, and sometimes even hypnosis. Apart from that, your child also has to read and write while building something. All this contributes to improve your child’s academic skills and make him the best of students.

4. Expand the imagination

Constructive play is about imagining different things in mind and putting them into action. I saw my daughter building different things, from a castle to a boat. She imagined these structures in her mind and implemented them in the most real way possible. Every time she played, she tried out different ideas and engaged her imagination. This made her a better thinker and a smart person.

5. Stability and Persistence

When building blocks and playing similar games, initial ideas are often in vain. Destroying a structure and trying another idea is quite normal while playing constructively. However, it is frustrating and makes a person impatient. That is where constructive play comes into play and increases patience in children. It makes them persist and motivates them to reach their goals.
