Amsterdam tourist attractions

In Amsterdam there are many internationally renowned museums such as the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk Museum and the Rembrandt House Museum, the Van Gogh Museum, the Madame Tussaud Wax Museum or the Filmmuseum. The Anne Frank House museum is also a popular tourist destination, as is the Amstelkring Museum, whose attic houses a secret 17th-century Catholic church. Also in this city is the famous Heineken brewery, which has its own museum.

The Hortus Botanicus, founded in the early 1660s, is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world, with many ancient and rare species, including the coffee tree from which the cuttings that served as the basis for the plantations came in Central and South America (the clone was a gift to Louis XIV of France and was taken to the French colony of Martinique in 1714, where it came to fruition).

The Ajax Amsterdam club is located and its stadium Amsterdam Arena in the city. Also the prestigious Concertgebouw concert hall is home to the equally famous Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, which gave its first concert on November 3, 1888. There are numerous buildings, churches, squares, bridges and others that are worth a visit.

A very interesting time to visit the city is Queen’s Day, or Koninginnedag, on April 30. That day all the inhabitants of the city go out to the streets selling all kinds of things, mainly household items in disuse. The city becomes a market and a real party and the streets are filled with people dressed and disguised in the royal color, orange.
