10 important tips for a good vacation – Types of vacations

It is a pleasure to be able to travel to new places, explore different cultures and visit the many wonders of the world. Traveling broadens our horizon, broadens our perspective on life and most importantly, it could help us relax.

Visiting another country and doing different things during the trip is pleasant, so we must minimize as much as possible any unforeseen events that could ruin the experience, here are 10 tips to remember when going on vacation:

1. Before going on vacation, it will be good to make a list of things to do. When you make a checklist, you make sure that important things like passport and medicines are not forgotten.

2. Allow enough time to get to the airport or train station and be aware of heavy traffic conditions. It is always good to arrive at the starting point earlier. You can take your time getting through immigration services and the chances of being stopped in queues are low.

3. Whether you’re going to a country with a horrendous criminal history or the safest city in the world, it’s always prudent to take care of your personal belongings. Do not leave your bags unattended and always be alert to your surroundings.

4. Sometimes it may be better to place your personal belongings such as passport, cash and other valuables in the hotel’s security safe. Asked the hotel staff about their security, please check it before you decide whether to place your personal items with them.

5. Be sensitive to the locals at the vacation destination. Don’t flaunt your valuables or wealth, especially in places where the poverty level is high. Not only do you draw unnecessary attention, but you could throw off bystanders.

6. Don’t be afraid to ask if you have any special requirements at the hotel you are staying at. Most of the hotel staff are friendly and polite and as long as you ask politely you will usually get the help you need.

7. As you are a guest in the country, it is important to be respectful of the locals and their way of life, especially their religious practices and customs.

8. Whenever possible, plan your travel itinerary before you start your vacation. Decide how you would like to get around, would you rent a car, follow a local guided tour, or use the public bus or train. Also decide what you would like to see when you are there. This will help you save time and maximize your vacation experience.

9. Sometimes be flexible and spontaneous. Sometimes the best travel experience comes from spontaneity. Change your plans if necessary. For example, weather conditions prevent you from following your original itinerary, do something different instead of wasting the day.

10. Get familiar with the local language. Learn how to say hello, how to say ‘thank you’ and how to ask for directions. Usually, you’ll get a more positive response when you know a bit of the local language.

Remember, traveling is learning, relaxing and enjoying. Although at some point things may not go according to your plans, keep an open mind and accept whatever comes your way, you can have a fantastic and memorable travel experience.
