When to consider unlimited broadband plans

If you’re like me and need to be online all the time, the only way to do it is to get an unlimited broadband internet plan. Because for a limited broadband, you have to be aware all the time with how many gigabytes you are using with every online activity you do. You will be required to pay charges each time you exceed the maximum limit and this can become costly over time.

So when do you decide you need an unlimited data plan? If you are a heavy internet user who is always downloading or streaming videos or if you are a family sharing the internet and each of you may be a medium to heavy internet user.

Categories of internet users according to internet use and consumption of gigabytes:

1. Light Internet User: This type of user would only need at least one gigabyte of Internet data to get through the day and uses less than 10 GB in a month. In general, this is for people who have not based their life on their social activities and could live in peace with a 10 GB limit. This data plan will limit the user to only emails and some Internet sites. Downloading a movie will easily eat up your monthly data plan allowance.

2. Medium Internet User: A maximum limit of 20 GB for the moderate user. You’ll be able to surf the internet every day, download a song/movie or two, talk to family and friends on Skype, but that’s about it. It’s really up to you to decide which category you fall into and how much you plan to use the internet on a monthly basis.

3. Heavy Internet user: This means a maximum limit of 40 GB. That’s a lot of space for downloading movies and streaming video and whatnot, but you still have to be careful not to overdo it or you’ll be charged extra on top of an already expensive broadband plan. If you are a heavy user, an unlimited plan would be more recommended to avoid paying additional costs.

4. Unlimited User – As mentioned above, this would be ideal in a family environment where you can’t really predict how each family member will consume gigabytes on your broadband. You might have a gamer child who consumes at least 20 GB of data in a week. Or your daughter’s favorite hobby is surfing the Internet and watching Netflix movies. An hour of streaming can easily cost you 2GB. Or she could be someone whose work is based online and would need a large number of gigabytes to function on a daily basis. In this case, she can’t really predict how much limit you’ll place on her Internet usage, so it’s best to choose an unlimited broadband Internet plan.
