What to do on a holiday in the Gambia

The Gambia is becoming an increasingly popular destination as it offers a new experience to tourists without spending a lot of money. The Gambia’s exchange rates, the Dalasi compared to the British pound, have remained virtually unchanged compared to two years ago, making it a much better value destination than European countries.

The time needed to reach your destination in Gambia is also not too great, as you can land for a Gambia holiday in less than six hours.

Once you have landed, there are many places to discover that I would like to share with you, including the experience of the rich and friendly culture.

Experience energetic live music performances. Many local bands can be found playing their unique brand of music in the evenings, as well as concerts hosted by West African greats like Babba and Maul.

Book a dance lesson. Dance to the beat of the kora, which is the Gambian national instrument, or you can try your hand at drumming using the local drum called a djembe.

Take a day trip by boat. No vacation to The Gambia would be complete without taking a trip down the Gambia River, which runs through the entire country. During a day trip, you’ll see a wide variety of incredible sights, from jumping monkeys, hippos appearing from below, and pelicans. There is so much to see on a boat trip, however you can also relax and just enjoy the peace of being in nature.

Go shopping for local crafts. Even the boys will enjoy exploring the incredible African instruments, woodcarvings and batiks. There are many unique and ideal gifts to bring home to family and friends to show off what you have experienced on a Gambia holiday.
