Tips to relieve a sore throat

Trying to deal with a sore throat is never easy. There are a few tricks and products that you can try to avoid some discomfort. Here are some ways to ease it.

Use salt water to gargle. While not exactly pleasant, salt water is great for making your throat feel better. You don’t need to drink the solution, just gargle and spit. To help relieve a sore throat, do it several times a day.

Mouthwash is also good to use. If you can’t think of pouring salt water into your mouth, you can gargle with mouthwash. Its sanitizing and healing qualities are almost the same as salt, and you may like it to taste a bit better. It should be enough if you do it once upon waking up and once before going to bed. Just make sure you’re the only one drinking from your bottle.

You can try to drink something hot. Slowly drinking something hot is a sore throat remedy that has been used for many, many years. Try digesting something, like coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or even some Neocitrin (a lemon drink to help cure colds). You will be amazed how drinking a hot beverage will temporarily soothe your throat. The warmth of the drink coats the inflamed areas of your throat. A hot drink serves the same purpose of soothing your throat, as you cannot add a hot compress to your throat.

Take some medication. There are many medications that presumably cure sore throats. Strengths and effectiveness will vary. A medicated pill may be the best option for you, something stronger, such as a throat spray like Chloraseptic. There are prescription and over-the-counter remedies that your doctor may recommend to soothe a sore throat.

Have something sweet. This sore throat remedy is perfect for those with a sweet tooth. You may find that a simple tablespoon of honey can help. Take a tablespoon of honey in exactly the same way that you would take a liquid cough medicine. Not only does it taste great, but it also soothes a sore throat by covering it up. Sucking on a candy like caramel can also help. This will help moisten the throat, which will ease the inflammation in the throat.

Give your face a smoky treatment. Steam is also beneficial if you have a sore throat. Bring water to a boil on the stove. Remove the pot from the stove, carefully place it on a flat surface, cover your head with a towel, and place it over the pot, allowing the steam to calm you down. Inhale the steam through your nose into your throat and you may notice immediate soothing relief from your sore throat.
