The ten best Valentine’s gifts

Whether you’re experiencing that first rush of love or enjoying the adoration of your soulmate, we’ve put together our guide to the top ten Valentine’s Day gifts. So don’t let love pass you by on February 14, start planning now to give your loved one a Valentine’s Day they will remember forever.

1. Jewelry
Of course, to be in the number one spot, we don’t just mean any old jewelry. We are referring to the ultimate jewel for Valentine’s Day, the diamond engagement ring.

While it may not be appropriate for all couples celebrating Valentine’s Day, if you’re considering proposing to your girlfriend (or boyfriend), then Valentine’s Day provides the perfect excuse.

Take her out to eat at your favorite restaurant and hide the ring in a champagne glass (just make sure she sees it before you have a drink!). Or suggest a romantic walk and pop the question along the way.

2. A romantic weekend in Paris
Or a romantic weekend anywhere! We are sure that you would be equally welcome to take them to New York, Prague, London or a remote part of the country. It’s the fact that they’re running away together that really matters.

Wherever you go, remember the little details that will make it an unforgettable romantic getaway. Arrange with the hotel to have flowers, chocolates or champagne in the room for when you arrive. Do some research and book a restaurant for the first night so you don’t end up wandering around for hours wondering where to go.

3. A day of experience for two
If a weekend is out of the budget, surprise them with a day of experience for two. Book something you’ve always wanted to do, like drive a Ferrari or jump out of a plane.

While the activities may not be romantic in and of themselves, the thought behind the gift and the fact that you’ve made their dream come true certainly is.

4. A day of pampering for 2
We all deserve a little pampering from time to time. And Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to treat yourself and your loved one to a relaxing day of pampering.

Many hotels and spas offer a variety of treatments so you can make your day as relaxing and special as you like. If budget allows, you can also include dinner and an overnight stay to round out the evening in style.

5. A romantic dinner at your favorite restaurant
While it’s a more traditional way to celebrate Valentine’s Day, no Valentine’s Day gift list would be complete without a romantic dinner at your favorite restaurant. And if you don’t have a favorite restaurant, why not book a table at a restaurant you’ve never been to before but have heard great reports about?

And don’t forget that it’s the little details that make the evening extra special. Book well in advance and request a table in a secluded corner. After all, a table near the kitchen with waiters bursting through the doors every couple of minutes can be anything but romantic. Order a bottle of your favorite wine or enjoy a bottle of champagne. If the restaurant has a hotel attached, why not extend the evening to stay overnight?

6. An afternoon for you
If you and your wife, husband, or partner have children, sometimes the most romantic thing you can do is arrange for a relative or friend to stay with the children overnight. Having an afternoon all to yourselves to snuggle up in front of the fire can be absolute bliss.

Even if you don’t have children, an evening can still be romantic. Cook a special meal for the two of you, or for a complete break, order takeout. Why not dress up like you’re going to a restaurant?

Alternatively, you can just curl up on the sofa with a nice bottle of wine and your favorite movie.

7.Champagne and chocolates
It may not be the most original gift but we are sure that your loved one will be impressed if you give him a bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates.

Presentation is the key to making this gift even more successful. Have them delivered to your home or be sure to wrap them beautifully before delivering them yourself.

If the budget allows it, the champagne and chocolates could only be part of the gift, which could include a romantic dinner and an overnight stay, or is it just wishful thinking on my part?

8. A huge bouquet of flowers.
Once again, flowers are a traditional gift on Valentine’s Day and are usually very welcome for the lady (or man) in your life. While a dozen red roses are often hailed as the most romantic flowers to send, there are other ways to make your floral gift special.

Find out what their favorite flowers and colors are and tell the florist to include them in the bouquet. In addition to having a special stone, the month you were born in also has a special flower. Do some research and include the flower that relates to your birthday in the bouquet. We are sure that your loved one will be impressed not only by the flowers but by the effort you have put into it.

9. A single red rose or a balloon.
Not everyone has an unlimited budget. A single red rose or Valentine’s Day balloon shouldn’t break the bank.

Also, if the presentation is right, one red rose can be as romantic as a dozen. After all, it’s the thought that counts.

10. A romantic walk
Granted, in mid-February in this country, a romantic hike might as well end up as a miserable, windy, wet hike through the countryside. But the point of this gift is to get away and be alone.

Weather permitting, a walk can be a great way to spend time together with no distractions other than the beauty of your surroundings (and of course each other!).

But it pays to have a backup plan, in case the rain stops playing!

Remember that no matter how much money you spend on a Valentine’s gift, it’s the idea that goes with it that’s important.

So if you’re doing nothing else this Valentine’s Day, just remember to tell them you love them!
