Sherlock Holmes in real life: an analysis of the character

My name is Jenine Silos and I have been a fan of Sherlock Holmes since time immemorial. And here I am thinking, what if Sherlock Holmes is real? Ok, I think that’s scary. i really do

The character of Sherlock Holmes is quite amazing, and I must say that the honorable writer of this fictional detective, none other than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is pure genius! He’s written his character very well and it’s totally awesome, even Sherlock’s flaws are pretty daunting. But that’s just for a fictional character, no personal feelings.

First of all, who is Sherlock Holmes?

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective character created by the Scottish writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Sherlock is a consulting detective, well that’s what he calls himself. Since the publication of his character in 1887, Sherlock Holmes has become one of the most historical fictional characters in the history of literature and even of humanity. Ok, that’s quite an exaggeration. Sherlock has then appeared in many series, stories and even in the movies. He has become a classic fictional celebrity.

The latest hit series, Sherlock, aired on the BBC, it has even become one of my favorite Sherlock series of all time. By the way, if you haven’t seen it yet, you must, I tell you. Ha ha.

He is not real. That is the deal. He is just a fictional character.

But what if Sherlock is real? (a character analysis and real life comparisons)

  • he’s a fan of cases

Sherlock Holmes loves nothing more than criminal cases, well, he does care about Doctor Watson though. He can’t live without a case. Imagine if you have a friend like that, or someone from your family, I think that’s a problem… it will be very uncomfortable inside the house. Every day he’ll look for a new case, and when he’s bored, it’s a thunderstorm!

  • he is unsociable

I have some friends who are sometimes quite unsociable, but I can tolerate them. But if Sherlock is my friend, then that’s a different story, his antisocial abilities are beyond my imagination. I might be able to tolerate a friend like Sherlock, but I really don’t know how long I could last. You might end up pushing him out of his shell, and he might not like it.

  • high functioning sociopath

In the BBC series Sherlock, Sherlock Holmes thinks of himself as a high-functioning sociopath. If a real person is like this in real life, I think it will be the end of my private life, goodbye my secrets: Sherlock person is here. I can’t imagine my life with a person like Sherlock, who seeing my face immediately deduces what has happened in my house, and that is total madness.

  • mind reader

It’s connected to his high-functioning abilities, and because he has that ability, he might be able to read your mind, your thoughts. He doesn’t literally read thoughts, but by watching your facial expressions and gestures, he can surely read you effortlessly. A friend like that in real life sounds amazing, and I have one on my list, and I’m telling you: it’s so scary to hang out with this type of person! Other people may think that having a Sherlock friend is awesome, that he’s cool and awesome, however I think otherwise. It will make you uncomfortable, especially of course if you have inside secrets that no one should know about. It’s awkward for sure!

  • He has a strong fascination for violins.

Granted, of all of Sherlock’s talents, this is the only one I have no complaints about in real life. Sherlock Holmes loves to play his violin, especially when he’s thinking or depressed, and I think in real life this shouldn’t be a problem. I have a friend who is a Sherlockian, and he also has a great fascination with violins, and I find him: cute, cool and just amazing. I have a huge admiration for violinists anyway, Lindsey Stirling to name!

Sherlock Holmes must remain a fictional character… that’s all.

Of course, when it comes to Sherlock Movies, I’m always fascinated by it. I find the character of Sherlock quite amazing, he’s great, yes, but only for one movie. Until now I couldn’t imagine that people like this exist in real life, maybe there are in some parts of the world, but I don’t think I would go as far as to meet them, or become friends with them. Like I said, I think people like Sherlock are scary in real life. I have a friend, younger than me, who is somewhat like that, and I don’t think I would like to add another to the list. In fact, when I see this friend of mine, I always tell him, “Don’t read to me!” And he would only outline a smile.
