Manual water pump in emergency situations

During an emergency situation, the priority is to store food and water. However, water is the most basic necessity of life that is also required for other household tasks. Water can be obtained naturally from the soil or by rain from the sky.

Hand pumps are used to suck up groundwater. Although, nowadays mechanical pumps are used, which do not require much force since it is using electrical power. But, in emergency situations such as droughts, disasters, and power outages, handpumps are more suitable and are usually a backup to mechanical pumps. By adding a motor to a hand pump, you can also use it as a motor or as a solar panel system.

A simple deep well water pump can be used for a depth of 350 feet in the ground and can be used to suck almost 5 gallons in a minute. A pump requires a pressure of almost 8 pounds to get the water to the ground.

A normal family requires almost 250 gallons of water a day; With the help of the manual hand pump, you can bring in almost 1000 gallons of water easily by working for three or more hours a day. A pump uses 12 volts for its operation.

As I mentioned above, you can also use the solar panel pumps. They are quite economical and save energy. But, the main disadvantage of such pumps is that during non-sunny days water cannot be pumped easily. These types of devices are either hand-operated or can use a 130-watt battery for operation.

This simple pump uses atmospheric pressure to create a vacuum through which water is sucked from the pipes. That is why these pumps are also called suction pumps. These can be used for shallow or deep wells.

Water can be stored in the barrel for use in emergencies. Apart from this, water storage tanks are also used for home water storage. You can store gallons of water in these tanks.

The tanks are made of high quality polyethylene and are made to protect the water against the growth of fungi or algae. Tank storage conditions are also specified. Usually, it is required to keep the tank in a cool and dry place. The tank should not be filled with water, as during cold days the water expands and causes tank damage. Therefore, please keep the tank 90% full of water for the safety of the tank.
