How to improve your car’s MPG by changing your habits

Gasoline prices have never been higher and it doesn’t look like the situation is going to improve anytime soon. I’m sure you’ve read a lot of gas-saving tips in the media, wondering if they really work, and if they do, how well? Well, I’m happy to share with you some tips that DO work and are definitely WORTH using. Also, if you use a combination or ALL of the tips given, you may see the kind of savings normally associated with hybrid cars, without having to spend money on a new car. Goal best of all, In the end, I share an ingenious solution that can save you over 40% on your fuel cost, by using… water!

The following tips focus on changing your Habits. No, it’s not your nail-biting habit or anything like that, but your driving habits of course! See, we tend to have habits that EAT fuel when we could have habits that SAVE fuel. Depending on your driving habits right now, you could save up to 37 percent right away. It sounds unbelievable, possibly false, so I suggest you read them, implement them and see for yourself. I was delighted with my own results.

Gas Consumption Habit 1 – Aggressive Driving! Obvious right? Sure, it’s fun (I think…) but this really kills fuel. Here’s what you need to do to start saving real $$$ on gas right away:

1. Do not step on the accelerator when starting.

2. Think long, not short, when you see the road ahead.

3. Brake gently, not hard, where it is safe to do so.

Second gas-saving habit – Do you have cruise control? use it This one really works, but why? Well, it smoothes out the throttle input by preventing those “surges”. Second, it encourages you to take a long-term view of the road ahead, rather than reacting to every traffic change around you. It’s also a great way to avoid speeding tickets! Put it to the limit, and that’s it. The only time you shouldn’t use cruise control is in mountainous areas, if you have an automatic transmission. The car will then slow down to maintain speed.

Habit 3: The old A/C on, windows up versus off, windows down argument.

Short answer: There tends to be a marginal difference between having the AC on with the windows up or the AC off with the windows down. It will depend on your car model, but from what I found the difference is marginal. Why? Because rolling down windows will increase drag on most cars. So you don’t really save much if you use the air conditioner. My advice: wear what is comfortable for you!

Habit 4: The “Check Tire Pressure” Habit:

Very obvious this, but surprising how few really take notice. Honestly though, I didn’t find much of a difference in economy, BUT it depends on what tires you use AND whether it makes a big difference or not, it MAKES sense to do this anyway as it will improve your car’s handling. , ride, and your tires will wear more evenly when running at the correct pressure.

My fifth and final tip: If you’re stuck in traffic, turn off your engine. Although there is a condition. How long will you be waiting? If it’s a minute or less, and yes, you have to measure this to the best of your ability, then it’s probably not worth turning it off. But if you’re waiting more than a minute, consider logging out.

Bottom line: These lifestyle changes will improve your gas mileage. Implement them all and you could save dollars, not cents, in the long run. And you also avoid speeding tickets, have fewer repair bills from hard driving, and possibly less stress in the deal!

So what about this method I mentioned at the beginning? The one where you could save more than 40% on your gas bill and that uses WATER? Check out my bio below to find out.
