Barebones computer kits, the essentials in home computing

barebones computer equipment

Barebones computer kits the simplest of all computers. They take the most basic computer hardware, assemble it into a simple computer case, and will run the most basic level tasks and processes. There is nothing flashy or exciting about these kits, they are just the barebones essentials, hence the name barebones computer kits.

Applications

Due to system limitations with barebones-style computers, your uses will also be very limited. The reason to buy basic computer kits or build one is because a computer is more of a convenience and less of a necessity. For those users, spending excessive amounts of money on their computers doesn’t make sense because the desktop won’t get used enough to justify the huge expense that a gaming PC or home PC can cause.

Barebones computer kits are used for the most basic operations and are typically purchased to perform the following functions:

  • Web browsing
  • Email
  • social networks
  • Word documents and office and business applications

Since this style of computer is meant to do nothing more than the most basic of functions, there is no need to spend a large amount of money on something so simple. If you look at barebones computer kits from a different perspective, let’s say laptops for example, you’re looking at what’s called a netbook. Netbooks are very small, very simple and very cheap and are only intended for a few functions. A desktop of this type would be the same concept as a netbook but in desktop format.

specs

Even the most basic system should have a minimum of the following:

  • 2GB-3GB RAM
  • 80GB hard drive
  • Intel Pentium or AMD Athlon processor
  • 128MB graphics card

System specs don’t have to be intense. The goal is a bare minimum because the computer isn’t used often enough to justify it.

When looking for RAM, keep in mind that it takes about 1 GB of RAM to run most newer operating systems. so you still want make sure you have enough RAM to run the other functions for which you intend to use your computer.

Your hard drive doesn’t need to be huge unless you have a lot of games, photos, movies, and other media-type files on it. Word documents, no matter how they are saved, take up very little space. An 80 GB hard drive would leave you with approximately 68 GB of storage space. Part of the hard drive is intended for the operating system and BIOS of your computer. 68 GB is a lot of space for most people.

As for your processor, I would recommend nothing less than a Pentium or AMD athlon processor. A dual core can be easily added for very little cost, and if you have a bit of spare space I would definitely recommend dual core. It will help speed up your processes and make the overall speed of the computer much faster.

Your graphics card is highly dependent on your other system hardware. Can’t support 1GB graphics card in barebones computer kits. That’s why I recommended a 128MG graphics card instead of something higher. The downside of a graphics card of this capability is that it won’t display graphics well on the screen.

A higher-end graphics card would show much more detail and color in images, play games better, and show movies more clearly. With a basic computer kit, few or none of these operations are performed, so there is no need to pay more for a higher caliber graphics card. Also, a barebones kit computer probably wouldn’t support a high-end graphics card. Nothing more than a 128MG is needed.

conclusion

This article provides the information to differentiate a home computer from the basic computer. The home computer has a little more versatility than a barebones computer kit, however, at the most basic level of functions, they can handle both at the same level. Barebones computer kits are intended for users who use their computer kits sparingly, and a home computer kit is designed for a bit more use, so the specs for home computers will be slightly higher than the specs. for barebones.
