Adventure Holidays in Turkey

If you are looking for a new family adventure holiday, why not try a holiday in Turkey? No, I’m not talking about your usual family beach and swimming trip, I’m talking about a complete adventure. Turkey has much more than cheap beaches and hotels; From dramatic moonlit landscapes in Cappadocia to the bright lights of ancient cities, like Istanbul, with a story to tell, Turkey has something for everything.

A true adventure holiday is a sailing holiday in Turkey. The Adventure Company recently launched two new family sailing trips to Croatia and Turkey. The whole family can not only learn to sail under the watchful eye of an experienced skipper, but also get to see Turkey from its stunning coastline. On a 45-foot yacht, families can sail from Bodrum to Ova Buku, where you can go dolphin-watching and try Buku’s only restaurant, Ogun’s Place, before setting sail for Bozukkale. This port dates back to 400 BC. C. and it is a fantastic stopping point for hiking and enjoying the views of the sea. The remains of the ancient city of Loryma are just an hour’s walk away or those looking to relax can snorkel in the calm, clear waters. After spending the night on board, the following days are spent sailing from port to port, including Datca and Knidos. Days are spent lounging on board listening to the sound of the waves, swimming and snorkeling in turquoise waters or on land searching for buried treasure, and meeting the friendly locals. From tiny settlements with flower-lined streets to the homes of famous Turkish poets, a sailing adventure in Turkey isn’t just for the sailor. Get as involved as you like in real boating and watch your kids learn to love the ocean.

If the sea isn’t the best for your family, then your holiday in Turkey can be spent horseback riding overland through Cappadocia, past the unique geological formations and famous fairy chimneys of this lunar landscape. Or head to Derinkuyu, the underground cities of up to 30,000 people around 4,000 years ago. Imagine a giant Swiss cheese house. Camping in the glorious summer weather is another must-do vacation adventure even for moms who hate the outdoors. With warm sunny weather, being outside in the breeze is a wonderful way to enjoy every moment.

And if horse riding, hiking, sailing and diving aren’t enough, head to Kas for sea kayaking, 4×4 adventures in the hills and leisurely lunches in sleepy villages.
