Homemade Birthday Gifts for Mom: 9 Inexpensive Gift Ideas

Your mom is on her birthday and you want her to be special, because she is very important to you. But what if you don’t have a lot of money? Here are some ideas for things you might like:

1. Make a homemade card. A birthday card you’ve made probably means more to her than a store-bought card. You can personalize it especially for her and decorate it with papers, ribbons and other elements that you find around your house.

2. Make your favorite dessert. What do you like to eat? Cherry pie, chocolate chip cookies, strawberry angel food cake? Find a good recipe and make sure you have the correct ingredients before starting this project.

3. Frame a photo or some art. Do you have a nice family photo or an artistic design that you have created? How about putting it in a nice frame and giving it to her?

4. Give you personalized coupons. Create and print a coupon sheet for various tasks that you will do for her. Things like weeding your flower garden, cleaning your car, or showering.

5. Fill a gift basket. Find a basket or other container and fill it with items such as: your favorite scented candle, hand lotion, candy, or slippers to use around the house.

6. Plan and cook a meal that includes all of your favorite foods. After the meal, insist that she stay out of the kitchen while you clean up.

7. Clean your house. While she’s away, surprise her by cleaning the house from top to bottom. Make a list of all the tasks you did and put a check mark next to them (to show they have been completed). Put the list on a birthday card and write something like: “Mom, for your birthday. I cleaned the house so you can have some free time. Enjoy!”

8. Decorate a notebook folder. Does your mom have a hobby or other interests? Maybe you like to collect recipes or maybe you are an avid bird watcher. Find photos or other designs that reflect your passion and decorate the folder with them. You can use the folder to collect information about your hobby.

9. Write a poem for her. It doesn’t have to rhyme. Just be honest and write down the things you admire or appreciate about her. You can read to her at the dinner table or print it out on a computer and frame it for her.

If you have more time than money, maybe one or two of these ideas will work for you. Tailor them to fit your unique situation and show Mom that you care.
